Rain Delays Disrupt 2025 Senior Little League Canadian Championships in Calgary

The 2025 Senior Little League Canadian Championships in Calgary, Alberta, faced significant disruptions due to unexpected heavy rainfall on Monday July 14th.  As a result two scheduled games were postponed as an extreme rain warning event swept through the city, bringing an unusual amount of rain and unseasonably cooler weather  that rendered the playing conditions less than ideal.  Due to the nature of the Turf fields at Webber Academy the fields remained playable and safe during the day. Environment and Climate Change Canada reported that Calgary experienced heavy precipitation, with some areas southwest of the city receiving over 30mm of rain, exacerbating playing conditions and forcing organizers to act swiftly to ensure player safety. The decision to move these games to Friday reflects the tournament’s commitment to maintaining a safe and fair competition environment, despite the unpredictable Alberta weather.

The rescheduling of the two games from Monday to Friday required quick coordination between Little League International, local organizers, and the participating teams. The two rescheduled games are:

  • Game #8 - Host - District 8 Knights vs British Columbia
    • Now Scheduled Friday July 18th at 9:00AM at AGAT Field, Webber Academy
  • Game #9 - Alberta vs Ontario
    • Now Scheduled Friday July 18th at 11:30AM at AGAT Field, Webber Academy

Looking ahead, the 2025 Senior Little League Canadian Championships will continue to monitor and adapt to any additional potential Calgary weather challenges. The move to Friday ensures the tournament can crown a champion to represent Canada at the Senior Little League World Series, but it also underscores the importance of contingency planning.
